Nameri National Park
Introduction
With an area of 213 sq. km , Nameri is 3rd National Park of Assam. Situated on the foothills of Eastern Himalaya, it has a picturesque beauty with hilly terrain & turbulant rivers. The river Jia- Bharali is flowing through Nameri which is famous for rafting. The area is located in the Sonitpur district , bordering Arunachal Pradesh. It is also the core area of Nameri National Tiger Reserve. Administratively the park is controlled by Western Assam Wildlife Division.
Geography
Geographically, Nameri can be located between Latitudes 26 degree 55’ N to 27 degree 03’ N & Longitudes 92 degree 40 ‘ to 93 degree 00’ E. It is located at a height of 100 – 350 m from the sea level.
Climate
The climate is moist tropical in the park.Summers are more humid & hot & the winters are drier. The annual tempr varies between a maximum of 35 degree C & minimum of 10 degree C. It recieves an annual rainfall of approx 2000- 3500 mm & the relative humidity is approx 40 %.
Wildlife
Fauna
Nameri National park is well known for its remarkable faunal diversity.Some of the important mammal species found in the park are Tiger, Leopard, Leopard, Leopard Cat, Clouded Leopard, Asian Elephant, Gaur, Jungle Cat, Capped Langur, Rhesus Macaque,Barking Deer, Sambar, Himalayan Black Bear, Indian Wild Dog,Civet Cat ,Chinese Pangolin, Indian Fox, Mongoose etc. The name of the Nameri National Park is also synonymous with the name of Golden Mahseer, the tiger of Indian rivers. The river Jia – Bhoroli is famous for the presence of this fish, Golden Mahseer.The park also provides habitat to several species of reptiles like Snakes, Turtles, Monitor Lizard & several species of amphibians.
Avifauna
Nameri is also famous for its rich bird diversity.Among the bird species found here includes some endangered species which are facing the threat of extinction .Some of the important birds species found here are Littile Cormorant, Large Cormorant, Pond Heron, Night Heron, Little Egret, Cotton Teal, Pariah Kite, Redwattled Lapwing, Red Jungle Fowl, Magpie Robin, Green Imperial Pigeon, Green Pigeon, Whitewinged Duck,Minivet , Black headed Oriole, Horned Owl, Nightjar, Indian Roller, hill Myna, different species of Hornbill, Kingfisher, Barbet, Woodpecker, Myna, Drongo, Parakeet, Owl, Bulbul, Shrike, Tailorbird, Indian Cuckoo, Crow Pheasant , Dove etc.
Flora
The vegetation of Nameri National Park is predominantly tropical evergreen, which is mixed with semi evergreen & moist deciduous forest.Riverine grassland also forms an integral part of the vegetation. Floristically rich Nameri National Park is home to several plant species.

How to reach
Tezpur is the nearest town which is 40 kms from the park.Salonibari Airport (Tezpur) is 34 kms. Distances of other town/cities from the park are Guwahati is 220 kms, Jorhat is 215 kms , Nowgong is 110 kms & Kaziranga is 125 kms.
Accommodation
Several hotels & lodges are there in Tezpur town which provide a wide range of facility. There is one tourist lodge at Bhalukpung maintained by the Tourism Dept. of Assam.
